Surf Expo is the biggest & best trade show for the Surf industry and this year was no different..Yes the economy has hit surfing hard, attendance was down for both exhibitors and attendees making the show feel quieter than past years, that being said it was still a great show. The shops that came out to see out boards were stoked that we were there and they were equally stoked about 2010. For the dealers that are creative, hands on, open to change and run their shops like businesses they will weather this storm without a problem. The dealers that have not been so open to change..for example new technologies, business models, brands, etc. they will most likely take a harder hit. No matter we wish every shop a successful 2010.

We were thrilled to see so many dealers at the show, we want to thank everyone that came out and saw the 2010 line. We also want to welcome aboard our new dealers. 2010 is a big year for Walden Surfboards as we celebrate our 45th year, and we are excited about all of our new models: The "Bambino", Wahine SUP & Strato-flex.

To held ring in the special year we are launching a brand new website, our goal is to have it up by March 1st. Our entire inventory will be online, updated daily.

Happy New year!

2010 is a big year for us, our blog turns one this month and Walden Surfboards is celebrating its 45th anniversary. For our 45th anniversary we plan on celebrating all year long, to kick things off we made a short video of some highlights from the past couple of years. We are planning a much larger production for our 45th anniversary video and we want as many Walden riders in the video as we can get. So send us your photos, the only requirement is that there is a Walden in the photo.

This was sent to us from Robert in Holland. He originally sent us photos of himself in a wetsuit and his Walden ready to surf. It looked so cold, colder than any pictures we have received so we asked for a little background. Thanks to Robert for sending the pictures & story

This winter day was on the 18th of December in a place called Petten.Holland isn't a really big surf country so if there are waves we need to go.This morning we had a snowfall of 4 inches and the outside temp. was about 28 F degrees.For Dutch standards that is a lot of snow.The sky was clear and the sun was high.There was hardley any wind at all.I grabbed all the rubber I had with me and put it on.6/5/4 wetsuit, 7mm booties and 5 mm gloves.My Walden 9'6 magic model was waiting in the snow for me.It was a funny sight to see the board in the snow.When we walked thru the snow up the dunes it was pretty slippery.Once on top of the dunes the view was awesome.Perfect 3 feet waves were rolling in.Creating nice lines of pure dutch pleasure.Couldn't wait to get wet.Funny enough the beach was snowfree.

I wasn't alone, a friend of mine was there to.With the two of us we enjoyed the waves.The weather was perfect.At one point I even put down my cap.Peaceful and no crowds what so ever.Not even the local seals. A classic moment of a nice winter session.Snow and surf, match good together.Remember snow is only frozen water.Enjoy every water.

Walden Mega Magic review

The first Walden Mega Magic's from Global surf industries (GSI) have hit dealers down under, GSI has a review page and below is the first review.

Only brought the 9 foot Mega board 2 weeks ago , Straight out on nice point break 2 strokes on wave ,The board turns well ,nose rides like a park bench , I normally surf boards between 10 foot and 11 foot, this board paddles as good and catches waves with ease, i was a bit worried that the thickness of board would limit the boards performance but it doesn't , best board i have ridden by far, i am 88 kgs and floats me like the Queen Mary .I I have now surf the beach breaks with this board and i was very supprised by its speed . I would recommend this board to anyone (ANOTHER GREAT WALDEN BOARD) I have had a 10 foot magic model for 2 years which is a great board but this board for me is awesome

The 2009 MSA Classic is always a great surf event, this year was no different.

"The MSA Classic is the premier competition in the Coalition of Surﬁng Clubs annual series. This club-level, invitational contest will be held at Surfrider Beach, Malibu from September 12-13, 2009. More than 275 invited athletes representing elite surﬁng clubs from California, Hawaii, the East Coast, Japan, and Australia will come together to compete at First Point, Malibu, one of surﬁng’s legendary waves.
"Other sports have Yankee Stadium, Churchill Downs, Old Trafford, Madison Square Garden, and Camp 4, Yosemite. All ﬁne. Surﬁng has their spots, too, and one of them is First Point, Malibu. So come to Malibu. Hang out with us and take it all in. Witness the history and walk among the legends.” said Michael Blum, MSA President.
Events during the MSA Classic are free of charge and open to the public. Early rounds begin Saturday, September 12th and run through Sunday, September 13th."

Steve Walden competed in his first contest in over a year. Steve still recovering and a little weak from the dreaded flu came to Malibu unsure of what he could muster up, he left Malibu with a 2nd place win in his age group.

The third week in August is the Moores UCSD Cancer Center Luau & Longboard Invitational to help to increase cancer awareness and raise much needed funds for cancer research and care.
Now in its 16th year, it has become one of the most successful surfing fundraisers and donated more than $3 million for the Moores UCSD Cancer Center. The Luau & Longboard Invitational has an international reputation for bringing together in the aloha spirit some of the most respected men and women in surfing history with community leaders, scientists, and national celebrities to surf for a cure.

The 2009 Longboard luau was a bit smaller this year a combination of scheduling conflicts ( surf expo was the same weekend) and no doubt economic issues, but what did not change was the stoke in the air for this great cause. Year after year the Longboard luau team puts on an amazing first class event and year after year the legends show up with out compensation to surf and support the longboard luau. It was great to see the cancer survivors team go out and surf strong, and to hear the crowds on the beach cheer them on.

Walden Surfboards was proud to participate again this year, even though Walden himself could not attend, he was overseas doing dealer and promo tours. Sent to represent the Walden Surfboard family was girlfriend Brandy who once again dreamed up a great concept surfboard for the live auction. The winner of the 2009 Longboard Luau Walden/Brewer photo surfboard was Fernando Aguerre, Fernando was also the winner of the 2009 Walden board. A big thank you to Fernando for his support, we are proud to have two boards in his amazing private collection. The auction didn't fetch the prices it had in previous years, but we know the team at the Longboard luau will just work harder, their good at that. We can't wait for next year.

Countdown to the 2009 Moores UCSD Cancer Center Luau & Longboard invitational

Each August, the annual Moores UCSD Cancer Center Luau and Longboard Invitational surfs for a cure to raise awareness and much needed funds for cancer research. By bringing together some of the most respected men and women in surfing history with business leaders, scientists, local politicians and national celebrities, the Longboard Luau is one of the world’s most successful surfing fundraiser and has an international reputation for celebrating the “aloha” spirit in the fight against cancer. Now in its 16th year, the Invitational has raised more than $3 million for the Moores UCSD Cancer Center. http://www.longboardluau.org/

For the past 8 years Steve Walden & his girlfriend Brandy have participated in the event, each year donating a one of a kind surfboard to the live auction. " The Longboard luau is such an important event and I am honored to be a part of it and to help raise money for such a worthy cause" says Walden. Past Walden donations have included a Lance Armstrong "LIVESTRONG" Magic model that Lance himself signed. which sold fore 27,500.00 A balsa Magic model signed by Greg Noll, Al Merrick, Renny Yater, Bob Mctavish an many more which sold for 17,000.00

This years donation may top them all, Walden Surfboards has partnered with legendary photographer Art Brewer for one of mostly ambitious boards ever. Art has a collection of never or rarely seen Polaroid photos of the surf industries greatest riders & personalities, the 2009 luau board will feature a compilation of some of Art's greatest photos from this collection. Art has also put together a Limited edition book which includes every photo on the board, this book will be included in the auction with the board. As a rule Walden never shows the completed board until the auction is complete but we have a sneak peak of the board being glassed.

Each board idea is dreamed up by Brandy and usually takes about 6 months to complete. "Last years donation was the toughest, trying to track down 50+ surfers to sign a surfboard was a challenge, but everyone involved was really into the cause and was thrilled to lend their name to the project" says Brandy, she adds..This year's board was an enormous job but Art really did most of the work in scanning each picture and laying them out". The live auction is August 23rd, we hope this special surfboard helps raise a lot of money for Cancer research.

Luke, future SUP champion!

A couple weekends ago my six-year-old son Luke and I competed in a competition called the Intracoastal SUP Cup. Basically it’s a 3.5-mile race circumnavigating Harbor Island in Wrightsville Beach, NC. There were maybe 50 racers competing but I was the only one racing with a passenger on board. Luke and I regularly paddle my 12-foot Walden around the intracoastal waterways near our home, so when news of this event came out, my wife suggested we both race together. We did and we had a blast. My Walden is such a cruiser that we easily broke through the upwind chop and hauled ass along the downwind section to a 10th place finish—definitely a father-son memory that neither of us will ever forget.

We took a short hiatus from the blog to recover from 6 weeks on the road visiting our US dealers on the East coast, Panhandle and Texas. The trip was an amazing opportunity to hang out with our dealers, see their shops and meet their staff. Each shop caters to different surf, surfers and conditions and it was great to see the differences in each shop. After some well deserved R&R, were shaping every day all day to fill orders for all are dealers. Thanks to everyone we met on the trip!

Now that we are fully recovered the blog is back!

Special recognition: The Longboard house

Our trip is winding down, we have seen surf shops from New York down the East coast and through most of Florida but today was a special day because we got to spend time with Mike Mann at his Longboard house in Indian Atlantic, Florida. We think that our boards are sold and represented by the best shops in the USA, each unique in their own way specializing in areas that represent their local surfers best however we must give special recognition to Mike Mann and the Longboard house.
The LBH is located in Indiatlantic Florida at 101 5th ave. on a busy corner. What you first notice about the LBH is the selection, they have the biggest, most unique longboard selection we have seen to date. LBH is known for their amazing inventory, if they don't have it you probably don't need it. LBH has surfboards for all types of surfers with all types of abilities but they also have the most cutting edge, out of the box, first on the block shapes that most other shops would pass on. LBH was the first shop to carry the Walden Wahine, first to carry the Walden Stealth..if it's new and cutting edge Mike will have it in before anyone. Needless to say LBH has the largest selection of stock Walden surfboards and custom Walden's. If they don't have what your looking for on the floor they can order it for you direct from us. The LBH crew are not sofa sitting, cell phone texting kid's, this group is older, wiser and collectively have years of surfing experience. Whether it's Ryan or Eric or any of the other crew these guys know surfboards.
As if stocking hundred's of boards isn't amazing enough LBH is jam packed with great apparel, skateboards, body boards, skim boards, and gear. LBH is girl friendly too, one side of the store is dedicated just to girls, as well as being staffed by the nicest team of surfer girls. LBH is about as core as you can get in the best sense of the word meaning they have the best selection of surfboards and the expertise to get you on the right board.
So the store is great, anyone visiting will figure that out immediately but what really makes LBH great is it's owner Mike Mann.
Mike Mann is cool. Admittedly we are fans but you don't become one of the best surf shops in the US by accident. Mike is a straight talking, ex-hippie, surfer who is one of the best independent retailer in surf. Surf shop owners tend to want to be surfers first and business men second, too concerned with "soul" and the old school way of doing things which is why there are so many average surf shops. Mike wants to be successful and he isn't ashamed to say it, he is passionate about surfing to his core but he doesn't let that stand in the way of business.
Mike is incredibly open about his successes and failures, one thing we have learned about successful people they never blame other people for their failings and Mike is a great example of that. He owns his mistakes and sees them as opportunities for the future and what a great example LBH is, it is a phenomenal shop. We like a lot about Mike Mann, and whenever in his company we are left knowing more than when we started. Mike tells it like it is..meaning he is honest. That's just cool. He shares his time, he knows its good business to take time with his business partners. He really cares about our surfboards, understands them, asks questions, adds input. He is invested in us as much as we are in him...and finally we trust him with our brand so we thank the Longboard house and Mike Mann for representing our brand so well. Boca Surf & Sail welcomes Walden

Boca Surf and Sail is in the heart of Boca raton at 3501 Federal Hwy 1. Boca Surf & sail first opened it's doors in 1985, back in the day it was not uncommon to arrive at BSS during normal business hours and see a "gone surfing sign" on the door, today BSS is open when they say they will be which is a good thing because BSS is a full service surf shop.

The front of the store is full of all the must have surf apparel from the best brands, they have a huge flip flop selection and a large women's and men's area. Along with the great duds, BSS has a large board room in the back which includes shortboards, longboards and SUP's. Boca Surf & Sail has a great range of Walden stock boards though you may have to step over owner Bob's giant snickerdoodle dog to get to the board room. ( he one of our favorite shop dogs)

BSS has a great staff, I am sure know one will complain that their mostly female and adorable but don't be fooled this crew knows their stuff. BSS has a young, hip vibe and caters to the core surfer as well as the local beach goer.

Ocean Magic welcomes Steve Walden

Ocean Magic was established in 1986 by Florida native Don French.

Originally, 1600 sq. ft., but after 20 years in its original location, Ocean Magic is now an institution in Jupiter boasting over 5000 sq. ft. and is rated one of Florida’s top 10 surf shops. Ocean magic is located in the heart of Jupiter in an unassuming strip mall, but inside the 5000 sq. foot shop is a great surf shop. Walden visits Surf Central Surf shop

Surf central in Stuart, Florida located at 1830 S. Federal Highway is a Stuart staple. Stuart is not jam packed with surf shops, so Surf Central is they shop to go to. Surf Central caters to both the local and tourist surfer. SC has a great selection of apparel, gear, sunglasses, skateboards and a huge selection of DVD's. Both owner Doug and manager Teague are great guys with years of surfing experience between them. SC has a cool friendly vibe and either Doug or Teague will take the time to make sure you get on the right board. Surf Central runs a summer surf camp as well as a ladies SUP clinic. Talk to Teague about either camp.

The back board room is filled with a great selection longboard, shortboards and SUP's. Surf Central offers a variety of price point boards including their own Surf Central label so everyone can get on a board and get surfing. High Tide surf shop welcomes Walden

High Tide surf shop is one of the most remote surf shops located on Tybee Island, Ga. about a 35 minute drive from Savannah but worth the trip. High Tide surf shop specializes in longboards, shortboards, SUP's, skateboards and kiteboarding. High tide is a two story A-frame packed with boards, gear and apparel. Owner Tim knows surfboards and is usually on hand either on the floor or in his "board room".

High Tide will appeal to the core surfer but it also caters to the tourist, you can find lots of great Tybee island t-shirts and hats as well as a great selection of beach gear. High Tide is girl friendly and has selection for the surfer girls including kids.

High Tide surf shop is a stock Walden dealer in both foam and epoxy, look for them to also start carrying custom Walden's too. If they don't have what your looking for on the rack talk to Tim about a custom board.

Walden Surfboards arrives at Sunrise

Our first stop in Florida was Sunrise surf shop in Jacksonville, Florida. Jacksonville came in at about 102 degrees during our visit, so hot that there is no reason to be outside unless your heading to the surf, given that there was no surf you wouldn't expect anyone to be in a surf shop...not the case at Sunrise, it was packed.

Sunrise Surf Shop has been Northeast Florida’s favorite surf shop since 1975, over the last 30+ years they have been sponsoring of up-and-coming surfers which is why Sunrise is really a community surf shop.

Sunrise manager Paco gave us a big friendly welcome as he does everyone in the shop, Paco has been with Sunrise for 15 years and knows how to run a great shop. His "blue" room in the back is where the huge board selection is which includes shortboards and longboards. Sunrise is a stock Walden dealer but look for Sunrise to start carrying custom Walden surfboards this summer. No doubt Paco can get you on the right board.

If your in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina you have to visit Atlantic Beach surf shop, it's like no other surf shop we have seen. The recently expanded and renovated shop doubled in size to almost 10,000 sq. feet making ths one of the biggest surf shops on our tour. AB surf shop opened in 1964, selling surfboards to locals and tourists for over 45 years.

Atlantic Beach has pulled off the impossible they have combined a pure surf shop, that any core surfer would appreciate and it combined with a high end boutique. The guys ( or girls) can go upstairs and drool over the selection of longboards, shortboards, SUP's and gear..if Atlantic Beach doesn't have the gear you want you really don't need it. For example AB sells Stand Up Paddle boards as well as paddles but they also stock hard to find paddle fins. Don't be fooled by the amazing merchandising thats clean and organized or the better men's sportswear section, this shop is a core surf shop. AB carries Walden's stock surfboards including the Walden SUP's, AB is also a custom Walden shop, if you don't see what you want on the rack AB surf can order it for you.
When we arrived at AB the downstairs was swarming with young, hip women clamoring to get their hands on the coolest brands. Of course they have the Roxy and Rip Curl 's but they still seem to have the best pieces within these brands that you don't see anywhere else. The women's buyer is very talented, the mix of brands is unique, fresh and beautifully merchandised. AB surf also carries the boutique brands that keeps the store from looking like a cookie cutter surf shop, like Vineyard Vines, Eliza B., Free People, Sperry, Patagonia & Nanette Lapore.

Atlantic Beach Surf shop has their own gear including hats, T-shirts, mugs & stickers just to name a few. This year the Morrow brothers took the shop over from dad who happily retired to the keys after 45 years, you can tell this is a family owned business. The store is big with a giant selection but it still has that hands on family run feel. The staff is friendly, hardworking and knowledgeable. After a few days of R&R the Walden Surfboards 2009 USA tour resumed at Surf & Adventure in Virginia Beach. Actually located in Sandbridge, Surf & Adventure is outside the crazy congestion of Virgina beach. Surf & Adventure is much more than just a surf shop they offer tours which include eco-ocean kayaking, dolphin tours and much more. Surf lessons, they are a full Billabong surf camp, Billibong Chica Surf camp and the also offer SUP lessons. As if that wasn't enough they have boat rentals and even beach supply rentals like chairs and umbrellas. Surf & adventure has everything covered for a great day in the water, no matter what you like to do.

The newly built S&A shop is bright blue and the grounds are covered in bright kayaks so you can't miss it from the road. Inside the shop is modern and hip, no old hang-out sofa's in this shop, S&A is not about sitting around talking about surfing and adventure but rather going out and doing it..you feel the energy in this shop .

Owner Rob has a calm, cool and collected vibe, amazing given the amount of services that S&A provides, though not a total surprise once you meet his amazing staff.. The crew is young but certainly one of the most knowledgeable, friendly and professional groups we have seen.

Rob loves what he does and it shows, he knows surfboards. Seeing him working with customers is like watching a old Zen master, he knows everything there is to know about a board but he doesn't do the hard sell, doesn't show off his knowledge, he just talks honestly with enthusiastic experience. Rob is a SUP addict and his shop has a full selection of SUP's and gear alongside their selection of surfboards. Sundown surf shop in Levitown Long Island had it's annual Surfboard swap and sale this weekend which coincided with Steve Walden's visit. The event was great a giant apparel sale, sidewalk demo sale and a Bar-B-Q. Even a slight rain couldn't damped the stoke. The entire Sundown staff was on hand to help the crowds of customers find the right board.

Sundown is truly a local surf shop, located in a non-descript strip mall on a busy road you could miss it if the traffic is moving to fast but Sundown is one of those classic surf shops that all the locals count on for great gear, a super surfboard selection, good advice and lots of story. Sundown reminds us of the TV show "cheers" somehow you feel like everyone knows your name at Sundown. Sundown has a very loyal local following but it doesn't discriminate against the first time surfer, grom or tourist surfer.

Sundown has a full range of longboards, shortboards and everything in between. They also stock a huge selection of entry level boards for kids, girls or first time surfers. Owner & Surf school director Shane Dyckman is the real deal, he has 25 years of experience, including a stint as a Southampton town ocean lifeguard. Shane and all of his instructors are also First Aid/CPR certified. The next stop on the Walden Surfboards USA tour is Long Island more specifically the Hamptons. Not a bad place to do business, not because of the big homes, big celebrities, great shopping and food..it's the local stoke. Get over the enormous wealth here and the Hampton's is actually exceptionally beautiful farmland, wetlands and coast..the people here love this place, respect it and feel honored to have such a pristine environment to surf in.

Our first stop was at Main Beach Surf & Sport 352 Montauk Highway in Wainscott. Main Beach is a surf shop for everyone, beginner, weekend surfer and the advanced surfer. They have an exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful staff that can walk you through their great boardroom on the bottom floor..softgoods on the ground level. Main Beach also sells Kayaks and Wakeboards. They offer the biggest rental program we have seen to date. Board experts Rick, Monty or owner Lars are always on hand and really help their customers find the right equipment.

Main Beach has a full line of Walden's including the Walden SUP range. These guys know SUP's, owner Lars is currently training for the Molokai channel 32 mile SUP paddle. Today was the first official day of the dealer tour in South Jersey, home to some of the best surf shops on the East Coast.We kicked the day off at Heritage surf shop, Heritage has three stores,the original shop inSea Isle founded by Dan heritage over 35 years two other store are in Ocean city and Margate.Each one of the Heritage stores has a unique vibe. Thanks to Randy in the Margate store for all the time, we love the great selection of boards and gear. Heritage is the only surf shop in Margate and a must see when in Margate. If the name sounds familiar, baby Walden was named in honor of his dad's lucky Walden Magic model and Steve Walden. Drew and Susan had to wait longer than planned to conceive, Drew got the wonderful news that Susan was expecting right after an epic day on his Walden magic model. This years "Sacred Craft" consumer show is almost over and already the buzz from our booth is the Walden "Strato-flex" board. Walden loves experimenting with new designs and technologies, the "Strato-Flex" is his newest project. The board is made up of 5 stringers, like a standard board the middle stringer runs the length of the board, the remaining four stringers are graduated and run about 2/3 -1/2 way down the board. This board has outrageous flex, as witnessed by the amazed people who watched Steve walk all over his board all day.

Congratulations to veteran Walden team rider Brendan White who placed third at this weeks PLA event in Ventura. Brendan 29, from San Clemente has been surfing since the age of 5 and had been with Walden Surfboards since the age of 9.

Brendan is the 2004 US open longboard champion, 2000 PSTA US professional Longboard champion and 1995/1996 NSSA National champion. Brendan's surf's his Walden super light EPS 9'0 ( 19 x 22 1/2 x 14 x 2 3/4) magic model on small waves. " This is a great everyday board that is extremely fast in small & slow waves"

On 3ft+ waves Brendan also surfs a super light EPS 9'0 magic model that is a little thinner. ( 9'0 x 19 x 22 x 13 1/4 x 2 1/2). Brendan says " this board being narrower and thinner is able to perform a little better in waves that are not lacking speed"

Steve and Brendan have worked very close together over the years building Brendan's quiver, Brendan still comes up to the shop in Ventura to work with Steve on new boards. Brendan's style..Steve says "Brendan is a very stylish, smooth surfer, yet still able to pull off power moves. Brendan is also one of the best noseriders around!

Congratulations Steve! This year Steve became a grandfather for the 14th & 15th time. Steve's beautiful twin daughter's gave birth within months of each other. Daughter Anna, who is the "face" of Walden Wahine and in all the Wahine ads gave birth to her first daughter Analei. Dad Steve returned from Iraq just in time for Analei's birth. Anna's twin Lizzy gave birth to her 4th child, son Malakai. Lizzy husband Gabe rips it on the Walden Retro wing swallow tail.

Like all the other Walden grandkid's and great grand kid ( only 1 for now) we know these two new Walden babies will be future surfers.

August 2008, Walden Surfboards "Signatures" board sells for $16,000

This years annual UCSD Cancer Center Luau and Longboard Invitational, benefiting the Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center saw another great live auction. One of the highlights of this years event was the sale of a 9'0 Walden Longboard for $16,000.00. This was no ordinary surfboard but a collaborative effort with the surf industries most remarkable surfers, legends & personalities.

The 9'0 Balsa Limited Edition magic model hand shaped by Steve Walden was laminated with the collected signatures of over 55 surf greats. Walden Surfboards spent over 2 months tracking down surfers from around the world for their signatures. "We are honored to have a full spectrum of the surf industry represented on the board including longboarders, shortboarders, legends, current competitors, shapers, writers, promoters, and of course the women." says Brandy Herrin who initiated the project. Brandy says it was an interesting process tracking down surfers who travel the world, usually to very remote places with out phones, FAX's or e-mail. Just a few of the amazing people whose signatures are on the board include: Rabbit Bartholomew, Ian Cairns, Randy Rarrick, Shaun Tomson, Greg Noll, Drew Kampion, Linda Benson, Bob McTavish & Al Merrick.

Steve Walden was just hoping the board would get about $7000-$9000.00, he was stoked to see the board sell for $16,000. " This event is very special to me and I am especially proud that our donation this year was a collaborative effort with so many of my friends and colleagues" says Walden.

The "Signatures" board was won by Fernando Aguerre of Reef, the board will be added to his famous private collection of surfboards. "We are very proud to have this board included in Fernando's collection"... adds Steve Walden. With the help of some dedicated surfers the event ultimately raised over $480,000 for cancer research.

The new 9’11” SUP is the smaller SUP in the Walden Magic SUP series. The 9’11” Magic SUP has the same design elements as the 10’10 Magic SUP that has become know as “The Padillac” but with reduced volume in thickness and length.

The 9’11” is designed for a smaller person who is a beginner to intermediate up to approx. 180 lbs. or a better surfer (up to 225 lbs.) who prefers less volume in their SUP rides.

The new 9’11” Magic SUP is built with the Magic model elements which include beveled rails for maneuverability and a concave bottom very stability . The 9’11” Magic SUP is a great addition to the Magic series, it even nose rides.

Walden Tandem team Bobby & Vanina

Just in...an amazing video of Walden veteran and tandem team rider Bobby Friedman and his new partner 11 year phenom Vanina Walsh. Vanina is 60 lbs. soaking wet, still in elementary school and yet one of the most fearless and graceful surfers we have ever seen. This teeny weeny wahine doesn't flinch at double over head waves. She has not gone unoticed by the surfing industry, Roxy signed her on as a team rider as well. Look for Vanina and her signature pink Walden wahine with red hearts in future Roxy ads. Bobby has been riding for Walden for many years and has transformed tandem surfing..he is a combination of power and grace. Vanina doesn't weigh enough to compete with Bobby yet, but once she gets to competition weight we know the Bobby/Vanina team will be unstoppable.

Magic Model video

We just finished the first of several videos about our board range, starting with the Magic model. The video features team rider Brendan White, Jarrod Poirot & Kyle Ruddick

About the Magic model....

The Magic Model is one of the most sophisticated longboards ever designed. Originally built in 1981, the magic model was years ahead of its time and has become the prototype of the modern longboard.
The Magic Model has been tested and improved for over twenty five years and today its performance is unmatched. The magic model is a great nose riding board,and all around performance longboard, just as fun in small surf as it is in larger waves.
The Magic Model is designed with a concave nose flowing to the middle of the board that transitions into double concave hulls extending to the tail with a moderate “V”. Rails are hard in the rear and soften to the nose to maintain responsiveness in all conditions. Although the rails tend to be harder than most other longboards, the unique bottom curve and beveled rails keep them from catching like most other hard rail boards.

2009 Limited Edition custom series

2009 is the second year of the Limited Edition Custom Series. In 2008 we offered 150 LE boards and sold out before the year was out. This year we have cut back to 100 boards, we listened to our your feedback and made the Limited Editions Custom series even more limited.

The LE series has special laminates as well as several authenticating marks. Each LE order is taken by Steve, shaped by Steve, signed and numbered by Steve. This is how Steve made boards in the 60's, almost 45 years of experience later you have the opportunity to order a one-of-a kind completely custom board directly from Steve again.

This year we are also presenting the 100 lucky people who order a LE custom with a 2009 Limited Edition Custom series T-shirt which features the new LE 2009 Logo which will debut in the next few days. These shirts will not be available for sale.

We want to introduce some of our crew and keep you updated on new boards, news, promotions & events...an insiders view of the the Walden brand.
